Circumcision is a primitive and barbaric practice, best left till adulthood when both the penis and brain are fully formed and least harm done, and informed consent obtained. If you understand developmental neuroanatomy then you don't circumcise without general anaesthetic, if you know about sexual anatomy then you don't circumcise full stop!!!!!!!

Circumcision is such violent thing to do an infant. It is truly sick. The more you know about circumcision, the worse it gets. The OBGYNs in the US are the ones who could stop it tomorrow if only they would put ethics ahead of profit. Most US paediatricans are against it but pretend to be neutral. Circumcision helps pay the bills for the OBGYNs. People in the future will look back at this time and shake their heads in wonder at how it was ever allowed. His body = His decision.

P.S. I've been fighting with Wordpress's formatting since I started writing this blog months ago. I've decided to let go of my end of the rope with this column. If you hit Control and the "+" sign on your computer, it will make the typeface larger.

Years ago, when my daughter was a pre-teen, she was involved with a local and somewhat famous girls' chorus. As a parent I was doing everything I could to support my blossoming songbird of a child, but I always felt a bit uneasy about the chorus director. Something about him made me uneasy, so I kept a close eye on the almost daily practice sessions. When the time came for a big performance in a cathedral space, I attended the rehearsals. And I witnessed the chorus director bully and belittle the girls. I watched the parents around me sit mutely. I became agitated and enraged, and in an overpowering need to protect my child and ALL of the other children (whose parents were mute), I stood up in the middle of the cathedral, stopped the rehearsal and in a voice that I barely recognized as my own, I said, "You will NOT be permitted to shame and belittle these children. I am taking my child out of this rehearsal and this organization, and I suggest that the rest of you save your own children from this man!" Hundreds of parents, one by one, began to applaud, then there was a standing ovation. My daughter wasn't sure if she should be embarrassed or proud. But she followed me out of the cathedral as did a number of other parents with their own daughters in tow.

Dear Mark,

I liked the column a lot. I hear your voice there and your research energy. I would be fascinated to see the brain working in real time. I think that's an amazing development. I would be interested in reading future columns of yours, so count me as a reader. The photo was a delight to see as I opened the blog.

It was nice seeing you, too, after such a long hiatus. And yes, I'm back in the saddle and hope to stay there!

XXXOO,
Megan

Hi Mark,

Well, this is wonderful to see and read what you are involved in. (The picture above is so beautiful) How exciting for you, the brain is a magnificent wonder. I am looking forward to reading the book you are sending.

I remember when studing to become a drug and alcohol counselor we had a class on the brain, neurotransmitters and the effects of drugs. It was one of the most interesting classes of the entire coarse. Just fascinating!!

Blessings,
Patti Kizzar
